Heading in to our Last Week of the Year

by Steve Krile

This Week

Mrs. Durbin taught the kids standard and non standard measures this week in math centers. The  kids had a GREAT time measuring items in Kriletown!

We worked with place value this week.

We used a number line and 100’s chart again this week to add up and subtract back.

We worked on telling time to the half-hour this week. Ask your Krile Kid about half past the hour.

By January it is my goal that ALL children will have addition facts to ten memorized!

Please be mindful that children are not to be in the building before school as there is no supervision.

Thank you for all the snacks! We are set until the break.

Laura Hammond will be contacting some of you for gingerbread house donations. We are going to attempt to make houses on Friday, December 21 in the afternoon. As I tell the kids when they try something new we are going to have an ADVENTURE!!

Reading and Writing

This week we read books by Jan Brett. She is both the author and the illustrator of her books. She adapts many folktales from other countries.  In writer’s workshop this week the kids continue to work on Jan Brett spin off books. The learning objectives for this project are side panels.

Jan Bret always gives clues to what is coming next in the story in a small side illustration. Her books are GREAT to read when working on predictions.  In reading workshop this week we read just right books about Frog and Toad, friendship, how to tie shoes and cloudy/sunny days.

Social Studies and Science

This week we learned about evaporation and condensation. Kids are working on a Randy the Raindrop book :)

Our SPECIAL KID this coming week is Catalina!  We learned her favorite colors are green and yellow. Her favorite food is ice cream. Her favorite sport is swimming and she wants to be a teacher when she grows up. Stop by and see her VERY fancy poster!!!
