December in Kriletown

by Steve Krile

This Week

Mrs. Durbin taught the kids High Roller this week. We have included the record sheet with comments on how your student did.

We worked with both addition and subtraction Frames and Arrows this week.

We used a number line and 100’s chart again this week to add up and subtract back.

We worked on telling time to the half-hour this week.

By January it is my goal that ALL children will have addition facts to ten memorized.

Please review your phone number and address with your Krile Kid.

Mr. Krile is FINALLY home this weekend and will pop up LOTS of pics to the site. password is on the take-home version of the Krile Khronicle.

Keep those snacks coming!!  Check out the website for ideas :) We are LOW!!

Laura Hammond will be contacting some of you for gingerbread house donations. We are going to attempt to make houses on Friday, December 21 in the morning. As I tell the kids when they try something new we are going to have an ADVENTURE!!

Reading and Writing

This week we read books by Jan Brett. She is both the author and the illustrator of her books. She adapts many folktales from other countries.  In writer’s workshop this week the kids started Jan Brett spin off books. The learning objectives for this project are side panels. Jan Brett always gives clues to what is coming next in the story in a small side illustration. Her books are GREAT to read when working on predictions.

In reading workshop this week we read just right books about a scardy cat, a teddy bear for sale, Henry and Mudge and friendships.

Social Studies and Science

We continue learning about clouds and precipitation this week. Kids are working on a Randy the Raindrop book :)

Our SPECIAL KID this coming week is Jason!  We learned his favorite color is blue. His favorite food is banana. His favorite sport is football and he wants to be an engineer when he grows up.  Stop by and see his VERY fancy poster!!!
