Reading and Writing

This week we read books written by Jane Chapman. She writes wonderful books all about bear and his friends.

In writer’s workshop this week the kids started animal research projects. If you have not yet sent in research from home please to so ASAP.

At the end of this writing unit the children will be able to tell you such facts as where the animal lives, what the animal eats, if the animal lives in groups or alone and where in the world the animal can be found. This is one of the major writing projects in first grade and will take us several weeks to complete.

Social Studies and Science

Ms. Thomas started a unit on maps with us this week. We started the unit with a what we know chart.  We will be reading and creating all sorts of maps over the next few weeks.

Mr. Szczygiel came to chat with us about all of the interesting creatures we might see next week.
